You take a little seed and plant, water, and fertilize it for a whole year, and nothing happens.
The second year you water and fertilize it, and nothing happens.
The third year you water and fertilize it, and nothing yet.
The fourth year you water and fertilize it, and still nothing.
The fifth year you continue to water and fertilize the seed. Sometime during the fifth year, the Chinese bamboo
tree sprouts and grows NINETY FEET IN SIX WEEKS.
Success is just like the Chinese Bamboo tree. Our "want it now", microwave society teaches people that everything is easy. It teaches people that "get rich quick" is the way to go. But last I checked, "easy" was not part of the formula for success!
I've always thought it interesting that in sports and in life we celebrate all the accomplishments of great athletes, business people, etc. but rarely celebrate what the greats went through in order to succeed. Bill Gates had a cot in his office that he slept on night after night for years when he was getting Microsoft off the ground! Michael Dell assembled computers out of his car and later his UT dorm room in the early stages of Dell Computer. Michael Phelps worked out in the pool for 8 hours a day for years and years in order to accomplish Olympic greatness!
It's what these people did in the trenches that brought them success. Do we really believe it's going to be any different for us?!! If we want to rise to greatness in any endeavor, it's going to take lots of work in the trenches when no one is looking. Lots of work where no credit is given. Lots of time in complete anonymity!! Take lots of blood, sweat, and tears going through the process!
Are you up for the challenge? Are you willing to work for 5 years like the Chinese Bamboo Tree and see very little results? I'm smack dab in the middle of my 5 years, how about you?!!
