Unless you plant good seed and constantly tend the field you get...WEEDS!! Lots of them!
The same principle applies to your mind!!!
Your Mind
It's important to tend the soil of our mind each and every day, watching what "seeds" we plant in it.
- Is that TV show or movie that you're watching going to produce weeds or a crop of positive/useful thoughts?
- Is that book, website, or magazine going to produce good or bad thoughts?
Ever wonder why you have bad dreams for months to come after you watched that horror/slasher movie? You planted weeds. Get worried sick about all the bad that's happening in the world? Feel stressed out and helpless about doing anything about all the things happening around you? You're planting weeds.
The Solution
Monitor each and every input (seed) that you allow into your brain and start consciously planting good seed. Some ways to plant good seed and avoid the weeds include:
- Read books (self-help, The Bible, spiritual, etc.) that will help you grow and improve as a person.
- Stop watching the news on TV and keep up on it online on websites such as The Drudge Report, that allow you to skim the headlines and selectively keep up with the news.
- Stop watching TV period. What was the last show you watched that had any redeeming value at all? Try Cutting of the Cable TV as we did.
- Stop watching R-rated movies.
- Stop playing violent video games (or better yet, stop wasting your time on video games, period!)
Your Kids
Don't forget to do the same things mentioned above for your kids as well. Every seed planted in their minds has a much longer period of time to grow and produce weeds.
