It's quite a coincidence that this post was made today titled, Study: Unhappy People Watch More TV. My wife and I have been talking about saving some money and becoming much more productive with our time and one of our solutions is to cut off the cable TV. The pieces are in place for us to do just that by the end of the week!
When we were first married we went without TV for 6 months or so until one of my pilot training students (a Kuwaiti who had graduated, was moving back to Kuwait, and didn't need his TV anymore). We've had some form of TV ever since, but lately I've felt the need to use this time for more important things. Some of our goals with this change are:
1. Save some money
2. Spend more time with each other and our kids
3. Start researching and planning our next family business venture
4. Start learning to play instruments
5. Get to bed earlier
6. Do lots more and encourage our kids to do lots more reading
While it'll take some getting used to, my wife's sister's family hasn't had TV the entire time I've known them (19 years or so). If they can do it, so can we!! A few things I'm going to miss not having cable TV include:
1. Tivo
2. Survivor Season 100 (I'm still a reality TV junkie!)
3. Mythbusters
4. Dancing with the Stars
5. American Idol
6. Donny Deutsch's The Big Idea
7. Sunday afternoon naps on the couch while watching NFL football
We'll keep you posted on our progress. If I'm a bit grumpy over the next couple of weeks, you'll know why. Wait a minute, the study said that I'm more unhappy watching TV!!!
What about you? Willing to make a drastic change like this to get where you want to go in your life? What would you do with the extra time?
