I totally agree with you on the importance of habits.
In fact about 1 month ago I made myself a special desktop background that reminds me of some habits that are important for me. The text on the background image says:
My Daily Plan
1) Wake up early
2) Work out
3) Wash
4) Meditate
5) Eat breakfast
6) Do whatever is most important

The reason I made such a silly plan in the first place is because I found that in the mornings I always rushed to the computer and therefore wasted my time and didn't have any time for small activities I wanted in my life (like exercising in the morning).
